Web Site Help Desk

Do you need help or advise on your web site? Are there some advanced features that you'd like to include but don't know how to do it? If you are running, or thinking or running a euro-sceptic web site, we are offering free advise and programs that can help you. Many of these are featured on this web site, and we are happy that you download them and tailor them to your needs.

Include a Web Ring on your site

The Webring provides the World Wide Web with a different way to organise web sites. The Webring is a way to group together sites with similar content (or any pages at all, if one so desires) by linking them together in a circle, or ring. The idea is that once you are at one site in the webring, you can click on a "Next" or "Previous" link to go to adjacent sites in the ring and--if you do it long enough--end up where you started.

Get a customised Search and Links Engine for your site

Here is a opportunity to use the Euro-Sceptic Search Engine on your own site. Why not link in with the Internet's largest search engine? You will add a valuble links page to your web site without having to worry about maintaing your own links page. One less chore. Click here for more.

The Euro-sceptic Web Ring is being created at the moment - if you want to include a euro-sceptic web site on it click here and fill in a simple form.

Sound Advice

Too many web sites are spoilt by bad design. These are the essential tips:

  • Colour schemes are important - but they should not drown out the message. Lurid background colours and tiles repel readers.
  • Use sensible font sizes. If you are using size 5, 6 or above for your main text it is too big. The default size is 3, but 2 is better for large amounts of text.
  • Do not make your paragraphs too wide. This makes it difficult to scan the lines.
  • Confine the number of graphics to as small a number as possible. The total 'load' of your page should be between 50 and 60K. That's 64,000 bytes. Any more and the page will take a long time to load up. Most people are still using 28k modems.
  • Remember that the majority of people are viewing your site with older browsers. Avoid using HTML codes that are proprietary to Netscape or Microsoft's Internet Explorer. The best standard is HTML version 3.2.
  • Many people are using browsers with no graphical capability, or for speed purposes they surf with graphics turned off. You should label all your graphics with a useful name using the ALT tag, eg ALT="My Logo".
  • Check your spelling. You can do this in an word processor.
  • Check your coding and bad links. Use the Web Site Garage - they can check your pages for free and it is very simple to use. Modern browsers are very forgiving but you will be surprised and what another browser will do to your page if is badly coded.
  • Make sure you have a contact name and email address. What is the point of sharing your message if no one can contact the site owner or editor? And make sure that the email address works !

Including a Feedback form

An essential feature for any web site. You can solicit better responses with a form designed to help the reader with a specific query. You should be able to create a form with questions and tick boxes and the results can be emailed back to you. Euro-sceptic.org can create a feedback form for you free of charge.

Useful Graphics

  • Flags UK, EU, and European flags and rotating globes
  • EU No Thanks Buttons in 18 European Languages saying no to the EU. By SuperG.

More features will be placed here soon.
